What to do with cannabis trim?

When we talk about cannabis trim, we mean all the plant parts that we may have trimmed, including large leaves, small leaves, small buds, and any other parts that are note the main buds.

Depending on the genetics, strain, type of care, and how well the trim was done, much can be achieved from the cannabis trim that should be covered in resin. If you plan to benefit from using the remains of the marijuana harvest, we recommend cultivating highly productive strains both in structure and in resin production.

Fortunately, there are several ways you can use the remains of the marijuana crop instead of just throwing it away.

How to use the cannabis trim

One of the most beautiful things about marijuana is the many uses we can give to the plant.

There are several things to do with leftovers; the most common is dried hashish, cannabis butter, and/or infused olive oil. For most of these products we will need the remains to be dry.

When doing dry hash you will need 200g of trim to get around 30-40g of hash. One of the most common ways of obtaining this product is to freeze the remains for a few hours and then shake them in a strainer or wire mesh. You are going to need some kind of container where the hash will fall. After shaking for about 5 minutes, you can collect the hash with a card and shake again. The more you shake, the more hash you will have, but keep in mind that the quality will be lower in each cycle after the first.

Cannabis butter is generally used for edibles like brownies, cakes, and cookies. Typically, a powerful edible will have around 20-30g of leftovers, depending on the quality of the strain. For the butter, you have to preheat the oven to 100°C and place the remains on an ovenproof tray, covered with aluminum foil and leave it in the oven for about 20-30 minutes. Every 10 minutes the buds must be gently mixed so that they don’t burn and everything decarboxylates equally.

After everything has cooled, place the decarboxylated remains in a glass container along with the butter and cook in a water bath until the butter melts. The mixture should not exceed 95 ° C and should never boil. Adding more water to the water bath helps maintain a lower temperature. After 2-3 hours in the 95 ° C water bath, strain the butter and refrigerate until solid and excess water forms at the bottom of the jar. At this point it is ready to use.

Infused olive oil is a great way to consume cannabis without having to smoke it. Like cannabis butter, it is better to consume it when cold, in a salad or in any way that does not apply too much heat to it. A good quality olive oil is needed and the first step is to place it in a saucepan over medium heat until it almost boils. When it starts to bubble, it’s time to turn it off and add the leftovers. After about 2 or 3 hours of leaving the remains in the olive oil, it is time to store it in a glass container. As long as it is stored in a cool place, it can be used for up to a year.
